Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez had been hyping up his stand up skills for sometime, but it was not until UFC’s Fight Night 8 that he got to show the world what he had been talking about. As Joe "Diesel" Riggs landed a right jab to Sanchez’s eye, Sanchez was able to land a right cross of his own sending Riggs to the floor. Riggs tried to quickly get to his feet, but his face was met with a hard knee as Sanchez pounced, ending the fight at 1 minute and 45 seconds into round one. The knockout was Sanchez’s first of his career and seventeenth straight victory. Riggs falls to 25-9 and 3-3 in his last six UFC fights.
Karo Parisyan won a hard fought decision victory over Drew Fickett. Parisyan won the battle on the feet and was able to overcome a nasty cut under his right eye. Fickett fought hard, but was unable to hang with Parisyan on the feet. Both fighters left the octagon bloody, but won over the crowd with their effort.
Josh Koscheck strong-armed a decision victory over Jeff Joslin. Joslin looked crisp on the feet and landed a few good shots early, but was unable to stop the takedowns of Koscheck. Koscheck scored takesdowns at will and was able to work ground and pound throughout the fight to earn himself his fourth straight victory.
In the opening bout of the televised portion of the card, Marcus Davis defeated "Mr. International" Shonie Carter. Carter was almost submitted by rear-naked choke in round one, but the crafty veteran was able to defend the submission attempt for 3 minutes. Round two saw Davis work Carter over with punches and once again Carter was able to survive and take the fight into the final round. Davis fought not to lose in round 3 and Carter was unable to do mount any offense. Davis has now won seven straight fights.
