UFC Light Heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell is a big hit these days, both with Hollywood and the world of sports. From an appearance on HBO's hit series, Entourage, two weeks ago to the cover of Men's Fitness and the pages of Maxim, "The Iceman" has been on fire. Now, it's ESPN magazine's turn to showcase the UFC poster boy.
According to TheBostonHerald.com, Liddell will appear, along with his son, on the cover of the May 21st edition of the weekly magazine. Writer Allison Glock provides the written coverage.
Liddell is scheduled to defend his championship against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson during the main event of UFC 71 on Saturday, May 26th. Liddell will attempt to avenge his previous loss to Jackson, which came on November 9, 2003, during a Pride matchup in Japan. Jackson stopped Liddell with strikes in the second round of action.
The cover story is another landmark step for mixed martial arts as well as ESPN, which used to shun the sport until relatively recently when it began recognizing UFC in its online platform. ESPN has yet to sign an agreement to televise mixed martial arts bouts but, with a move like this, its only a matter of time.
